Our program development began in 1970, when we established a network of inner city, after-school academics programs in Columbia, Missouri.

We found that the one and only thing that kept standing in the way of the children's success and hope for the future was that they had never mastered the basics. Without a solid foundation in reading, grammar and mathematics, they quickly slipped away by fourth grade into apathy; sometimes violence and drugs.

Scottsdale Horizons opened it's doors in 1980, founded on the educational principle that children deserve and need a program of instruction that will strive for more than adequate competency. We believe that each child is a truly unique individual, with a personal level of maturity, having special needs and talents. In 1995, Scottsdale Horizons Private School became one of the first schools in Arizona to receive a charter. Opening three additional charter campuses in 1996, and the Tempe Horizons Communications Arts School in 1999, the Horizons Association of Schools was officially on it's way.

We are success oriented at the Horizons Association of Schools, but never at the expense of our basic value system. Our program is built upon a foundation of integrity, consistency, and a commitment to excellence in education.

As educators, we teach that in taking one step at a time, we will gain mastery and proficiency of skill and concept. Offers have been made in the past to franchise our approach and expand it nationally, but we've continually turned down those proposals. Instead, we search for just the right niche that will serve our strong social purpose, and support the DREAM upon which the school was founded...
