The Horizons Schools (with the exception of Montage Academy Preschool) are "charter" - and a charter school is an alternative school. That merely means that you have been given a choice. You can choose to stay in a more traditional environment, or move to a unique, non-traditional setting. Unique is defined as "one of a kind" or "unequaled." Both definitions describe the Horizons Association of Schools well. We do indeed have a unique curriculum. We are different!
Most families are ecstatic with the opportunity of giving their children a private-type education in a free, public school. They are thrilled with the low ratios, the phonetic reading program, the insistence upon mastery, the values-oriented, hands-on approach, the individualized lesson plans and specially trained educators! They choose us because of the differences they are going to get. We strongly suggest, however, that they also inspect what they will be giving up.
Your child will not have a teacher. They'll have a team of teachers. We create exciting classes by matching teachers to specialties based upon ability as well as love of the subject. All of our students therefore get the best the teacher has to offer. This is best for the children, but not necessarily for their parents, because this necessitates communicating with more than just one teacher when you want to know something. If you are used to knowing one teacher, and developing a yearly bond, then realizing that you don't know your child's whole team by the first week of school may be disconcerting. To ensure successful communication, all the Horizons Schools are overseen by a Mastery Team. Their responsibility is to oversee the Horizon's product at all locations through continuous training of staff, students and parents.

After all, any situation that arises in life can be handled through successful communication.
